The unofficial kickoff to the summer season is just around the corner! The snow is fast-melting, the temperatures are getting warmer, and the outdoor activities are starting to make a comeback for the summer season. Paired with some exciting events around the South Shore, Lake Tahoe is ready to show visitors a great time this Memorial Day Weekend!
Lake Tahoe Summer Kick Off Car and Bike Show at the Heavenly Village
Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Shops at Heavenly Village and check out some vintage and unique automobiles and motorcycles. This free car and bike show at the Heavenly Village is open to all and includes 25 trophy giveaways, a poker walk, and sidewalk sales throughout the village. The car and bike show is brought to you by the Good Samaritans Safe Ride, and takes place in front of the Gondola along Highway 50 on Friday, May 24 to Monday, May 27.
Arts & Crafts Show at Round Hill Square
Warmer weather also means the arts and crafts shows come back out. This Memorial Day Weekend, enjoy strolling outdoors among stalls of unique and quality arts and crafts. Meet the artists and peruse their wide selection of pottery, jewelry, sculpture, prints, paintings, photography, wearable art and woodwork and hand-crafted items. This event runs from Friday, May 24 to Monday, May 27 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the Round Hill Square (located near the Safeway on the Nevada side of the South Shore).
Historic Vikingsholm Castle Tour
Starting Saturday, May 25, the daily tours of the Vikingsholm Castle begin again for the summer season. Vikingsholm is noted for its outstanding architecture and scenic location, and represents an era of gracious living. Tours are available daily every 30 minutes from 10:30AM to 3:30PM, and are conducted by the experienced and knowledgeable guides of the Sierra State Parks Foundation. Access to Vikingsholm is via a STEEP one-mile trail from the parking lot located off of Highway 89 or a less steep 1 1/2 mile trail that leaves from the Eagle Point Campground campfire center. Access is also available by boat as a part of a tour package from Action Water Sports, and Cruise Tahoe. A visit to the magnificent Vikingsholm Castle is a must-do on your Lake Tahoe adventure list!
Scenic Hikes & Waterfalls
Late spring brings some truly beautiful changing scenery and waterfalls with the melting snow and the forests coming back to life after a hard winter. Many of the South Lake Tahoe hiking trails are now exposed again, and the melting snow creates some magnificent waterfalls. Enjoy picturesque views of the lake, and the surrounding mountains and forest, while getting out into nature around the south shore.
Outdoor Dining & Beer Gardens
The outdoor dining spots and South Lake Tahoe brewery beer gardens are already starting to open for the summer season, and the rest typically open over the Memorial Day weekend. Scattered around town, you will find numerous restaurants and breweries that offer great outdoor seating areas; some are on the lake with breathtaking views of our large alpine lake, others have live music, fire pits, and views of the surrounding pines. Take in a bite or a brew (or both!) while taking in some fresh mountain air and views this Memorial Day Weekend!
Ski Resorts are Still Open!
Not ready to pack away the ski gear just yet and looking to squeeze one more last day on the slopes before they close for the season? You’re in luck! Due to our extremely heavy snow pack this winter, a few of the local ski resorts have extended their closing dates. Heavenly’s last available weekend for skiing and snowboarding is Memorial Day Weekend, and Squaw Valley is open through the 4th of July this year. Spring skiing at its finest!
We still have availability left for the upcoming holiday weekend. Discounted spring rates are still in effect, so enjoy a last minute savings on a Lake Tahoe cabin rental in the mountains this Memorial Day Weekend!
